When your infant has severe cow's milk protein allergy, multiple food intolerances, or has failed every hydrolyzed formula your pediatrician has tried — Enfamil PurAmino™ is the elemental answer. Built on a foundation of 100% free amino acids, this hypoallergenic infant formula contains no intact proteins for your baby's immune system to react to. It's the formula allergists and GI specialists turn to when a newborn's feeding journey is anything but simple — and it's available right here, without a prescription.
Key Features & Benefits
- 100% Free Amino Acid Protein — No Allergenic Proteins: Every protein source is broken down to individual free amino acids — eliminating the risk of an immune reaction to intact or even hydrolyzed proteins.
- Iron-Fortified for Healthy Development: Provides the AAP-recommended iron levels to prevent iron-deficiency anemia and support healthy brain development during the critical first 12 months.
- DHA & ARA for Brain & Eye Development: Essential fatty acids that support visual acuity and cognitive development maintained even in this elemental, medical-grade formula.
- Suitable for Tube Feeding: Compatible with NG and G-tube enteral delivery, making it a go-to solution for medically complex infants who cannot feed orally.
- Indicated for the Most Severe Cases: Recommended for infants with severe CMPA, FPIES, EoE, short bowel syndrome, multiple food protein intolerances, and serious GI conditions.
- Flexible Pack Options: Single 14.1 oz can, 2-pack, or 4-pack available.

How is Enfamil PurAmino different from Enfamil Nutramigen?
Enfamil Nutramigen uses extensively hydrolyzed casein protein — broken into small peptides — and is appropriate for most infants with cow's milk protein allergy. PurAmino takes it further with 100% free amino acids and no peptides at all, making it the right choice for infants who have failed Nutramigen or have more severe diagnoses like FPIES or EoE.
Is Enfamil PurAmino the same as EleCare or Neocate?
All three are 100% amino acid-based elemental formulas for infants, but they differ in fatty acid composition, osmolality, vitamin and mineral ratios, and manufacturing. EleCare is by Abbott, Neocate by Nutricia, and PurAmino by Enfamil. Your child's allergist or GI specialist will determine the best fit based on medical history and tolerance.
Does Enfamil PurAmino require a prescription?
No. Enfamil PurAmino is available without a prescription at BabiesNBottles.com. However, because it is a medical-grade elemental formula, it is strongly recommended to use it under the supervision of a pediatrician, allergist, or GI specialist.
